alternativeThere are many options in the treatment of cancer. One of the options to consider is the complementary and alternative medicine (AMC, for its acronym in English). AMC is the term for products and medical practices that are not part of standard care. The standard of care are practicing physicians, osteopaths and ancillary health professionals such as registered nurses and physiotherapists. Alternative medicine means using different treatments to the standards. Complementary medicine indicates the use of alternative treatments with the standards. Examples of the AMC therapies are acupuncture, chiropractic and herbal medicine.

AMC treatments do not work for everyone, but some methods such as acupuncture can help improve the nausea, pain and other side effects of cancer treatment. In general, researchers know more about the safety and efficacy of standard cancer treatments than on AMC. Readmore…

ProstateNormally, cells grow and die in a controlled manner. Cancer cells continue to form out of control. Chemotherapy is treatment with drugs that can halt the growth of these cells. However, it can also damage healthy cells, causing side effects.

It is possible that during chemotherapy has no side effects or have a few. The types of side effects you have depend on the type and dose of chemotherapy you receive. Side effects vary, but the most common are nausea, vomiting, fatigue, pain and hair loss. Healthy cells usually recover after chemotherapy, so most side effects gradually disappear.
