Given current knowledge about prostate cancer, there is reason to believe that certain attitudes in life can help prevent this disease. A possible risk factor is diet. It should reduce the risk of colon cancer by eating a diet low in fat and rich in vegetables, fruits and cereals. Likewise, the use of certain vitamins or vitamin complexes in the presence of minerals also help to prevent prostate cancer.

A pharmacological level and as happens with other diseases, studies show that daily use of aspirin or ibuprofen in people over 60 are beneficial because they are associated with a lower incidence of this cancer.

Useful information
Of all men diagnosed with prostate cancer, 97% are alive 5 years after diagnosis and 79% at 10 years. These figures include all stages and grades of prostate cancer, but does not take into account the men who die from other causes.

Risk factors for surgery and other treatments, especially radiation and chemotherapy are urinary incontinence and impotence. Incontinence is extremely rare, occurring in less than 5 percent of all surgical cases. In addition, there are procedures that can solve it. Impotence is more common and is the side effect of most concern to patients especially young people, but also can be treated with different drugs and / or technical devices such as penile prostheses.

About 70% of all prostate cancers are diagnosed when the tumor has already spread to other parts of the body, and despite that survival rates have increased more than 10% in the last five years.
